Work on additional content for Call of Duty: Black Ops II is winding down as publisher Activision prepares to launch the next game in the series, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and developer Treyarch is planning to go out with a world-ending bang.

Activision and Treyarch today revealed Apocalypse, which is the final downloadable-content pack for Black Ops II. It features four multiplayer maps and a new Zombies mode called Origins. Apocalypse goes live for Xbox 360 on Aug. 27 for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15).

“Apocalypse is Treyarch’s grand finale to Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia said in a statement. “It is the perfect culmination of our efforts, and fan feedback, with two all-new multiplayer maps for players to experience for the first time, and two fully reimagined fan-favorite multiplayer maps from past games — and Origins, our most epic Zombies experience to date. Apocalypse is a DLC pack that our fans will never forget.”

The Apocalypse expansion’s new maps include Pod, Frost, Takeoff, and Dig. Pod is a failed collectivist commune from the 1970s off the coast of Taiwan. Frost is a snow-capped European city with multiple levels and a bridge connecting two sides. Takeoff, an update of the original Black Ops Stadium map, has players fighting on a remote launch site in the middle of the Pacific. Dig, which updates World at War’s Courtyard map, is now an archeological site in Afghanistan.

In addition to the competitive maps, Apocalypse will include Origins, which brings back the heroes from the first Zombies map. Origins will end the story of Tank, Nikolai, Takeo, and Rictofen as they must fight off the German undead using World War I-era weapons. The group of soldiers will also have to evade a 1,000-foot-tall robot.

Apocalypse will release on PlayStation 3 and PC sometime in the next few weeks.
