Advanced Warfare, DLC keep Call of Duty sales rolling along

Activision’s No. 1 franchise doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

In the publisher’s earnings report for the first quarter of 2015, it revealed that total sales of Call of Duty increased thanks to last year’s Advanced Warfare release. The shooter’s downloadable content packs were also a factor in its strong performance.

“Activision Publishing’s Call of Duty franchise Q1 sales increased by a double-digit percentage year-over-year due to the strong sell-through of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and growing online revenues per user across the franchise,” the company said in a press release. “There has been early success of the new microtransaction offerings which have helped drive increased engagement and monetization.”

Developed by Sledgehammer Games, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare brought the series to the future. It added jetpacks and a photorealistic version of actor Kevin Spacey to the franchise. Sledgehammer was the first of Activision’s Call of Duty studios to benefit from a newly implemented three-year development cycle. Previously, developers only had two years to make their games.
